What is Fitter Than Fit?
Fitter Than Fit is a work out program like no other based in Bournemouth. We offer classes that are affordable and accessible to people of all ages and any level. We offer different types of workouts involving martial arts and circuit training. Our speciality is Muay Thai so our Bootcamp classes have a Muay Thai touch to enable our customers to learn the basics of the Art while keeping fit. We also have other Arts such as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Boxing, Yoga… Through our bootcamp program, many of our clients became fighters competing (Boxing, K1 and Muay Thai) on a regular basis. Our fighters are representing “WASSMUFFIN MARTIAL ARTS ACADEMY”, Wassmuffin Warriors, Lions… Some people ask, why Wassmuffin? Well, to really find out 🙂 you will have to spend some time with us. Ive been training at fitter than fit Muay Thai for 9 months now and i have finally found a class that i love! I always found the gym a chore and got bored easily.The thai boxing bootcamps are always varied,each class is abit different,ive learnt alot of new skilss and noticed a massive difference in my body. My strength and power has increased and my body has toned.Mike will always push you to do your best and get the most out of your workout! WICKED CLASS
I’ve never been a self motivated person when it comes to fitness. I first joined the Bournemouth university session 7months ago, after a 1 hour session a week with mikael in a group I was so keen to do more! I then started the bootcamp with Charlie in the mornings 6:30am-7:30am. Being pushed to achieve with a supported diet plan included, alongside the woman’s Thai kickboxing with mikael in the later mornings. You feel a difference and see the result as time goes on. Well recommended!!
I started fitter than fit last March. When I started I didn’t recognise my self anymore. I had piled on the pounds over the years from pregnancies and a thyroid illness. I had tried various diets and exercise programmes, none of which made much difference and left me feeling that I had no control over my weight and health. I was recommended to fitter than fit by a friend and thought it was worth a try as she had had amazing results. I was totally hooked after the first class and started personal training with Mike soon after! Mike made me realise that I could push past my self imposed boundaries that had been holding me back for so many years. He has been supportive, motivating, inspirational, and shouty at times and this is exactly what I needed! I have lost 10kgs and more importantly have more energy and confidence than ever before. Everyone that I’ve met at fitter than fit are friendly and welcoming. The classes are so fun and are like therapy for the body and soul! I first heard about fitter than fit bootcamps through a friend at work a few years ago, so I thought I’d give it a try as it sounded fun and a good way to get fit.
I started going once a week on a Saturday morning at first, this soon became 3 times a week, and now, I go 6 mornings a week. It has become part of my daily routine and really wakes me up in the morning and kick starts my day.
What’s great about fitter than fit is that it’s never the same work out. Charlie and Michael really mix things up from circuits to weights to pad work, which keeps things fresh. Also the group that regularly go are great people and we always have a great laugh even when we are being made to sweat.
Going to fitter than fit has helped me shed weight and lean up and also energises me for the day ahead. Thanks guys
I was recommended to try Fitter than Fit by a mate of mine. I thought it was worth a bash as working odd hours I struggled to find a consistent way of keeping fit and as result had a growing middle section. I started by going to a early morning session and was hooked from day 1. Michael and Charlie have got it spot on, they work you hard, have fun but most of all and which is so apparent is they keep it real. Forget any ego’s you can sometimes find down your average gym, the Fitter than Fit crew are an awesome, down to earth bunch and I highly recommend getting involved. I ended up doing a mix of both morning and evening sessions and even did a couple of privates. Every session is different which keeps it fresh and Charlie and Michael always manage to find every last bit of energy you’ve got, I enjoyed the sessions so much and got such a buzz I started to do two in one day! The guys are so motivational and supportive I guarantee if you get involved and stick with it your see the results, have a great time and a make some wicked new buddies! MASH IT UP!!
If you are looking to improve your martial arts skills, get fitter or just leave the gym with a great sense of achievement, Michael is your coach. I trained in martial arts (on and off) for a couple of years before attending Michael’s classes. After some sparring, lessons and 1-on-1s with him, Michael motivated and persuaded me to compete. The two competitive fights I have had with Michael in my corner, I have won- these are the memories that last with you. A professional instructor who is knowledgeable and tough enough to push any athlete out of their comfort zone and improve in all aspects. Cheers coach!
I love training at Wassmuffin Muay Thai with the Fitter than Fit crew, both private and group classes are tough, rewarding and generally full of banter! It’s serious training that’s enjoyable and approachable for all levels, they really tailor your fitness so it suits you personally and offer great dietary advice. There’s organised group activities on occasion and regular competitions to enter for all standards. Just leave your ego at the door, show offs aren’t welcome!
I first met Michael at a local Bournemouth gym where I had been to add an extra evening of training in from my regular gym.
It was the first time I had studied Muay Thai and immediately I noticed how different it was to kickboxing which I had trained for several years.
I quickly got hooked learning new techniques and adapting my older kickboxing ones to be suitable for K1 and Muay Thai.
I was also impressed with how good his students were, I would see somebody hitting the pads with what looked like considerable experience to find out later they had only been in the gym a short while.
After a few months of training with him once a week I had to leave Bournemouth for 18 months. On my return I found that my old instructor had stopped running his class and I knew immediately who I wanted to take over as my coach.
By this point Michael and Charlie had decided to start their own gym called Wassmuffin Muay Thai and I wanted to be a part of it.
They quickly got me back into shape after a year and a half on the couch, and now, after a year at Wassmuffin Muay Thai, I feel as fit as I’ve ever been, my skills as diverse as they’ve ever been and I’m performing as well as I ever have.
I’ve managed to persuade many of my friends to come and try the class out and none of them have regretted it. Many of them regularly attend now and it’s great seeing them afterwards excitedly talk about what they did and what they’ve learnt.
I couldn’t be happier being part of the Wassmuffin Muay Thai team and I would definitely recommend it to people that want to get fit, improve their confidence and learn some fun new skills.

I joined fitter than fit back in August 2014 after realising I was gaining far too much weight and pretty much becoming sedentary. I have struggled with my weight for years but couldn’t get on with gyms as I just kept losing motivation. This all changed when I joined here, I couldn’t do a sit up when I started, and walking up stairs were a problem. Since then I have lost almost 3 stone in weight, i’m much fitter, stronger and faster than I have been in a long time (maybe ever). I now exercise nearly every day and look forward to it each time! Charlie and Michael make this successful as they have a passion for making you a fitter you, I would recommend them to anyone
I’m writing my testimonial from the Suwit Muay Thai camp in Thailand and there is no way I would have ever got here without the help of Michael and Charlie. I was one of the first members of bootcamp and that first session was traumatising, I couldn’t jog/run and no way could I manage a press up – even on my knees. I kept returning as everyone was always so welcoming and encouraging. I started with just 1 day a week as it took me that long to recover and eventually ended up being so addicted Id go at least 5 times a week occasional going twice in one day. I needed motivation and this was the only place I found it, I’d tried various different classes before and nothing every stuck for longer than a week. Bootcamp is always so varied and I can’t stress enough about how nice the people are, I hated gyms because I found them intimidating but here you feel instantly welcome. You are always encouraged and pushed to what they know you are capable of regardless of continuing to say ‘I cant’. My fitness improved dramatically and now over 2 years on I have been able to complete 2 tough mudders, kicking butt out here in Thailand and the fittest I have ever been. I was introduced to Muay Thai bootcamp classes by a friend at the beginning of December, I was fed up of my party life style, drinking too much and eating the wrong foods. Weighing 66k. Loved it and attended 2 to 3 classes a week. Mike started to advise me on my diet and supported me through detox’s, shouting a lot when I cheated! He’s really passionate about getting good quick results which is very motivating. The better I felt the more I wanted to train, booked some private sessions and my fitness improved rapidly. I now train 7 days a week, 5 privates and 2 classes and have lost 3kg in 7 weeks. Would recommend Muay Thai and Michael for anyone that wants to see quick results. Thank you Michael x
Initially I was recommended a joint one-to-one session with a friend from my other gym.
I enjoyed the first session so much that I invested in a block of 10 one-to-one sessions.
I had previously trained in boxing and kickboxing, and my level of fitness was very high due to competing in national cross training competitions. However, after 3 months of 3 one-to-one sessions per week, I had lost a stone in weight, my body fat index (BFI) was measured similar to a professional athlete at 15% and that is eating relatively sensibly. Not to mention feeling extraordinarily more energized.
What I find most beneficial is Michael’s ability to push me both physically and mentally. His training is experimental – some exercises I have never done. My abdominal muscles look amazing – in fact I am the best I have ever looked at the age of 42 years old.
I highly recommend this training with a view to losing weight, body fat, and improving fitness levels.
I have just got to the leanest I have been in 15 years and it’s all thanks to Fitter Than Fit. I have tried lots of different exercise routines over the years and quickly got bored or as time went on not got as much benefitass I did at the start. Every session I am being pushed. The sessions are tough but I can see the improvement in both cardio & body shape week on week. The FTF think fitness which reflects in sessions. Every session there is a new exercise to keep my body thinking. The variety of 3 session per day has allowed me to work around work and other life’s schedule. Despite hating the gym, being the world’s worst fight sport pupil I am truly hooked.

I can honestly say Fitter than Fit has changed my life! When I started I was really unfit, overweight and had arthritic knees, and shoulders. I’d never done a press up, sit up or burpie in my life and would never have believed I could (nor would want to!). I so nearly didn’t come back for a second session after almost dying on my first time, but I’m so glad I did. I’ve tried different sorts of exercise over the years but the encouragement and enthusiasm from Charlie and Mike has helped me to push myself to become fitter than I ever have been (age 53!). You’re amazing and I love my sessions with you (even though I might hate you at the time!). Thank you.
PS – what you’ve done with Jonny is amazing. As always he understated his physical difficulty in his testimonial. When his condition was diagnosed we were warned he might eventually need to use a wheelchair. His character has gone a long way to keeping him mobile but I would never have believed he could attain the sort of fitness he has with you. Massive thank you for that too.
Its thanks to Fitter Than Fit Boot camp that I had the confidence to wear this dress to a recent wedding! I’ve only been “camping” for 10 months , but have loss a stone in weight and started to tone up! I tell all my friends to come and give it a go and most of them love it too.
I used to think that once you had kids you had to except the way your body was, but that’s not true you can get it back!
Charlie and Mike are great people even when they are shouting at you! And above all it’s great fun
Since being with fitter than fit I have never felt so strong and fit in my whole life. I was already into my sport and exercise before but this boot camp and Thai boxing has taken me further than I would have thought. I have finally started to build muscle and feel my fitness improving daily. Charlie and Michael are amazing trainers because they are motivating and push you to take that extra step. I really recommend taking part in their classes as they not only push you so you feel you have achieved something after but also start to build friendships as everyone is so welcoming. I am gutted to be leaving in August and would wish that such a boot camp would be where I lived back home.

As someone who has always struggled to motivate myself to go to the gym I’ve always been on the look out for a better solution. I stumbled across Fitter Than Fit by accident and thought I’d give it a go. Fun, friendly and most importantly, no egos. You really do only get out what you’re prepared to put in, but to have people there to motivate you towards your goal makes all the difference. In the first six months Fitter Than Fit helped me lose well over a stone in body fat. No two sessions have ever been the same. It’s hard work, with a firm but fair mentality, but you will not find a more engaging, enjoyable and rewarding way to exercise. It’s changed something I used to dread into something I can’t wait for. Try a session, for FREE, and you’ll be hooked.

I started personal training at the end of January with Michael. At the time I was overweight and unhappy with low self esteem. I have never worked so hard in my life but it was great and the results continued to motivate me. What a transformation I have lost 16lb, and 8 inches, my fitness and stamina levels have dramatically improved and I am motivated and more confident. Every week I cycle, open water swim, run and still fit in a PT session once a week with Michael. Now training for a Triathlon. Thanks for everything x
Back in April 2012, I was introduced to Muay Thai Bootcamp by Kathryn (long time camper, who has also written a testimonial). I had never really been a fan of PE at school or any form of exercise and being completely honest, I had very low self-esteem and so joining a gym was pretty much out of the question. Kathryn encouraged me to try out Muay Thai Bootcamp. The first session is free to try so I had nothing to lose and a friend to attend with. That session was killer – I remember not being able to move without aching the next few days. But it was a good ache. And it was good fun; a great atmosphere and banter with the other campers and a lot of encouragement too. So I went back the next week. And the next. Then I started to go twice a week, then three times… I started to see and feel a difference, not just physically but mentally too. With this newfound strength, vigor and respect for myself, I started going running and trying out other sorts of classes at different gyms. However, even when I have had a break from Muay Thai Bootcamp, I always looked forward to coming back. This is an amazing gym family; I am thrilled to be a part of it, to see it grow over the years and I wear my Wassmuffin Muay Thai hoodie with pride. Michael and Charlie are fantastic trainers – they believe in you and encourage you to go that little bit further. But it’s not all serious; we all have a good laugh – there is no gym clique here!
